Mrs. Kami Labs

My name is Mrs. Kami Labs and I am the 1st Grade Teacher.  I am super excited to begin my third year at New Underwood School District, and my 20th year teaching elementary.  We are going to have a fabulous year of learning and fun this year!

My husband Greg and I live in New Underwood and are embracing being "empty nesters".  My son graduated from BHSU in Spearfish, and he and his future wife live and work there. My daughter graduated from SDSM&T and lives and works in Colorado.  Greg and I have two dogs: a chocolate lab and a shih tzu mix, both of whom are crazy.

I graduated from Northern State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Education.  In 2013, I earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Sioux Falls with a focus in reading.  In 2014, I completed Reading Recovery training with the University of USD.  I also passed the Praxis test to add Library Media Specialist to my teaching certificate.

Between New Underwood and Hill City I have 20 years of elementary teaching experience.  During that time, I taught preschool, kindergarten, 2nd grade, Title 1, Reading Recovery, and was a literacy coach for the elementary staff.  Teaching young children is truly my professional calling.  I consider myself to be a lifelong learner as well.

Some of my favorite hobbies include reading, crocheting, traveling and browsing in bookstores.
