Strategic Planning

February 2021, a committee comprised of community members convened to discuss the current and future needs of New Underwood School District.  Members are:

  • Board Representatives: David Flint & Britney VanderMay

  • City Representative: Mayor Teresa Hall

  • Community Member Representative: Larry Graham

  • In District Parent Representative: Teresa Gravatt

  • Open Enrollment Parent Representative: Anna Whetham

  • Local Industry Representatives: Bryce Chamblis & Bart Miller

  • School Staff Representatives: Amanda Christensen & Darla Rodenbaugh

One of the first steps taken with this committee (with school board approval) was to assess our current facilities.  A facility study was conducted by Architecture Incorporated.  The results are here:

2025 Update: The school district has taken several steps since the onset of this committee (now dissolved) to prepare and plan for our future. The original plan to build an expansion was cost prohibitive when the actual numbers came through, and another, more cost-effective plan had to be made.

Currently in progress is a modular classroom project that will provide the district with seven classrooms and an office/conference space across the street from the main building. This option provides the same number of classrooms at a cost of around $1.9 million dollars in contrast to the expansion to the main building that was penciling out between $9 to $11 million.  These modular classrooms will provide flexibility for the district in the short term, without the need for a bond measure, in order to plan for future facility projects.
