Ask your student(s) about the Library's Winter Reading Challenge! It is a fun way to get daily reading time in. Encourage your children to read, better yet, enjoy a book with them! In a study done in 2019, 45 million Americans are functionally illiterate and cannot read above a fifth-grade level. https://literacyproj.org/2019/02/14/30-key-child-literacy-stats-parents-need-to-be-aware-of/ Happy Holidays!

A message from your local NU Library! Did you know? Students who choose what they read and have an informal environment in which to read tend to be more motivated, read more and show greater language and literacy development. Children who are read to at least three times a week by a family member are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading compared to children who are read to less than 3 times a week. https://literacyproj.org/ Over the holiday season, make time to read those magical things called books! Happy Reading!!

The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden is an intense book! Under the Covers Book Club met December 9th at the NU Community Library. We had a great time discussing up to chapter 10, even though it was hard for some to stop there. We are a very laid back, but fun group who would love to have you join! We will meet again January 6 at 6pm and will have read up to Chapter 40. Enjoy your holiday season!
